  • Zip, Zip, and SMASH!!

I gotta tell ya, Jersey have some messed up road designs.  Yield merges on highways, jug handles, lanes that suddenly ends?!?!

Yield merges – when merging onto the highway, yield for oncoming traffic.  Seriously obey the yield sign or things can be catastrophic.

Jug handles – turn right, swing around if you want to make a left turn.   So you can’t really make a left turn without making a right.

Lanes that ends - multiple lanes but pay attention to the traffic sign above.  If you are about to drive under a traffic sign over the lane marked with a big red X, change lanes fast or you’ll end up playing chicken with the oncoming traffic.

Oh, even worse.  Double merge – 2 separate merges onto the highway one after the other follow by a exit.  Traffic jam!

BTW, the ‘SMASH!!’ part of the title refers to the accident that happened right in front of me.  It happened right at a yield merge where in front of me was a service truck and in front of the truck was a new looking G6.  Basically we were waiting for a gap in traffic before we merge onto the highway, but the service truck must of thought the G6 already merged and floored it ended up smacking into the back of the G6.  No one was hurt, but it feels weird as I sit in my car watching it happen and couldn’t do anything about it.  I was like “NOOOOO….DON’T DO IT!!” *SMASH*.  Oh well, then I drove off.

  • I’m from Alabama, but I recently visited NJ.  I couldn’t even believe they had those “jug handle” things.  Ridiculous.

  • yeah… I’m from missouri but I’m here in NJ for the next two months on a business assignment.

Wow! You wanna talk about a shocker, the roads here are INSANE. LOL No left turns, no U-Turns… That means take three right turns every time you want to go left………..

    Its CRAZY!!

  • r u like the head dude of xanga?

  • hmm something said “JON needs help”

    whats up??

  • i love new jersey’s roads. jug handles are the only way to go – i hate it when there are left turns and they block up a whole lane. and yield signs are the best. you just gotta be faster. makes sense. i <3 new jersey, harcore.

  • Jersey driving ain’t for wussies.  but once you’ve driven here, it’s hard to drive anywhere else!  I was recently in Florida and I actually had to turn left to make a left!  What kind of craziness is this!?

  • wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yea but jersey=home. You wanna see weird road signs.. go to florida.. or ARUBA.. thhose are CRAZY.

youll get used to it once u stay here long enough

  • LOL!  I don’t know why I am here.  Um…my xanga said Jon needs help and my best friend is Jon so I looked…LOL!  That is messed up.  Driving in FL, TN, and MO is all I really know other than interstate driving.  I wish I had a car.  I would come see if NJ is any good.

  • I can turn left…I can!  –Derrick Zoolander

  • you get used to the signs. what you don’t get used to is the number of soccer moms who drive 80 mphs with their kids in their minivans talking on their cellphones!

  • haha nice post. i think lots of states have variations on that ‘jug handle’ method of left-turns. we have ‘michigan lefts’. apparently left-turns are more dangerous and so instead of separate left turn lanes… they force you to make a hook. i guess u-turns are safer.

for those ‘lanes that end’, are you saying that if you continued straight, it would run into another ‘lane that ends’ from the other direction? what?? maybe this is to balance the safe left-turns.

and the actual reason for leaving a comment: i was wondering why xanga doesnt do threaded comments like livejournal (!). i think that would be a great feature… i noticed the ‘title’ feature was just added.

  • im just commenting u bcuz on thetop of my ste, it said jon , needs help…..(right)

  • Jersey road rules are the best.  I learned how to drive there.  I moved to northern virginia a few years ago.  I miss two things, the ocean, (used to live 4 blocks away) and the driving.  The circles, jughandles, u-turns (those are jughandles after the intersection where you want to make a left turn, jughandles are before the intersection where you want to make a left.) it just makes things run so smoothly.  Ever drive down a two-lane road and the person in front of you is trying to make a left so you get in the right lane and there are a whole bunch of nitwits driving really slow because very soon they need to make a right so they better slow down to almost a complete stop.  Ugh! I could go on and on about bad drivers.  Jersey drivers rule!

  • New Jersey and its drivers are known for being maniacs. I suppose that includes whoever designed NJ’s roads. Always, when I nearly get run over on the way home from school (I live in NYC), it’s an NJ plate. Heheh.

  • man o man which one are you the one with the GREEN loser
